Tiffany and Co. Celebrate The Great Gatsby

Written by
Tiffany and Co. Celebrate The Great Gatsby

Director Baz Luhrmann's film, The Great Gatsby debuts on May 16 in the United Arab Emirates, and with it The Great Gatsby Collection by Tiffany & Co., inspired by the film and created in collaboration with Oscar®-winning costume designer Catherine Martin.

"It gives us great pleasure to showcase the Tiffany Jazz Age Collections inspired by The Great Gatsby and to celebrate their brilliance with our customers in the Middle East," said Mr. Laurent Cathala, Tiffany Vice President Emerging Markets.

The spectacular jewelry is based on designs from the Tiffany Archives and worn by the film's all-star cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, who appear as Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan. "The jewelry symbolizes the story's themes of wealth and privilege, and we approached its design with the utmost style and luxury in mind," said Jon King, executive vice president of Tiffany & Co.

Tiffany's dazzling creations illuminate the characters' rarefied world of New York penthouses and Long Island estates. Ms. Mulligan's Tiffany wardrobe includes tassel necklaces and jewels with lustrous conch pearls. At evening soirées her blond bob is circled with the Savoy, a headdress of diamonds and cultured pearls, (shown below) and her gestures are accented by a hand ornament in a daisy motif and diamond rings with the Tiffany® Setting. The daisy is also featured in earrings of Tiffany Yellow Diamonds and a long-stemmed brooch.

Elizabeth Debicki, who plays Jordan Baker, wears chandelier earrings of rose-cut diamonds, bracelets of diamonds and seed pearls and Art Deco-inspired rings of sapphires and diamonds in platinum. At posh parties her elegant ensembles are accented with fluid diamond necklaces and earrings of cushion-cut black onyx or emerald-cut aquamarines.

Mr. DiCaprio's custom Brooks Brothers shirts are finished with oval cuff links of black or green enamel on 18 karat gold. Essentials such as a slender card case and flask in sterling silver fit smoothly in the pockets of his tailored linen suits and tuxedo.

Fashion and Style Between Evolution and Reinvention

If we look back at the evolution of fashion during the past century, one observation remains; that the inspirations mostly come from the trends of the past. So is fashion really moving forward or is it simply an expression of our subtle attempt to bring back the good old days and relive the golden ages?

When you think evolution, you think extinction and the rise of trends and the complete eradication of other ones. However, this is not the case; fashion designers keep digging for the timeless pieces that thousands of years ago made royalties stand out apart from the commoners. So the high rise, the beaded collars and plisse skirts of today testify to the ancient Egyptian and Roman influences. The long sleeves, floral prints, the overwhelming chiffons and flowing silks scream of the retro effect of the seventies and the eighties. The maiden hair styles and the crisscrossing of fine braids speak of the nostalgia to the romantic ages. Fashion is actually evolving backwards!

However, many trends have emerged and designers developed their signature styles especially back in the 1920s as fashion became an expression of modernity and women started to know freedoms in dressing like they never did before. With the "shift" waist-less and sparkling dresses and the short hair dos, the deep red lipstick and long cigarettes, women used the style as an expression of freedom and their final departure from the tight corsets of the iron maidens. Fashion and style ever since have become a statement rather than the craft of putting mere pieces of clothes that cover the body for practical purposes or special occasions.

The true evolution of fashion comes in the way it has become an expression of self and a reflection of a woman's unique identity. The seekers of trends are no longer copy cats as they used to be before. Each fashionista has developed her own personal blend of the best couture out there. Mixing and matching and playing with colors and choosing the right accessories is how the spirit of evolution has truly touched fashion.

Soon designers will be forced to come up with true innovations and new lines as the trends of today are barely two decades away and their modifications of past fashions are pretty but come lacking the spark of a new era in fashion.

Has the well of inspiration gone dry? That remains to be seen!

Baume and Mercier Launch Clifton Collection

Swiss Maison d'Horlogerie Baume & Mercier presented its newest watch collection Clifton at an exclusive evening at The Cigar Lounge, The Address Downtown Dubai, on 7th May. Themed to reflect the masculine Clifton collection territory and its historic roots in the "Golden Fifties", the atmosphere enriched the brand's historic standing as a fine luxury watch creator and offered a welcoming environment for guests to gain remarkable insights into the legacy of the Baume & Mercier world and its 183 years of watchmaking expertise.

The Clifton collection of men's watches is inspired by a museum timepiece that dates back to the 1950's and perfectly combines tradition with modernity. Clifton reflects the core values of the brand inherited from its rich history – affordable luxury that combines excellence, expertise and aesthetic elegance – and also showcases the brand's quest for excellence that shaped its destiny.

Both urban and classic, from its clean lines down to its finishes, Clifton was created specifically for a male clientele wishing to purchase a timepiece to accompany them through every moment of their lives, transcending both personal and professional spheres. The collection features a total of nine references, including the emblematic Clifton 1830, a particularly sophisticated watch which took direct inspiration from the historic model, four 41mm automatic pieces, two 39mm red gold pieces and two moonphases.

Commenting on the special occasion of the Middle East premiere, Romain Dezaux, Middle East Brand Manager of Baume & Mercier said, "We're proud to mark the occasion of the Clifton launch in the region; the collection has been received brilliantly so far on a global level and we have an extremely positive outlook in the Middle East. Clifton mirrors all that the brand stands for in terms of classicism, timelessness and modern elegance, whilst perfectly embodying our history and watchmaking know-how."

The new timepieces are now all available in points of sale across the region, including Baume & Mercier's only boutique in the world in The Dubai Mall.

Interview: Effective Hair Loss Treatments from Hårklinikken

World famous Danish hair restoration brand Hårklinikken has taken its first step into the Middle East with the launch of its flagship Dubai facility. Hårklinikken offers individualized treatment for hair loss, based on proprietary products, pioneering techniques and unique treatment systems. The clinic's reputation has continued to solidify over the years with the company now widely recognised as the leading hair loss treatment facility in the world, not only due to its unrivalled results but to an unwavering focus on ethics, transparency, and outstanding patient trust.

5

The cornerstone in Hårklinikken treatment is the specialised products, known as 'extracts', which are custom-created for each patient. Customization of the ingredients contained in each client's extract and the ongoing adjustment of the extract as treatment progresses is essential. Hårklinikken also offers a range of specialized shampoos, conditioners, and styling products that support the effect of the extracts. In many cases, hair loss treatment with Hårklinikken products is sufficient to solve the problem. For more severe cases, hair transplantation is required.

anayou had the pleasure of talking to Dr. Lars Skjøth, founder of Hårklinikken Group about the innovative treatments offered from the product:

Hårklinikken has developed unique hair transplantation techniques using the principles of Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). Hårklinikken's highly sophisticated FUE procedures allow for each hair follicle to be removed from the donor site, and transplanted one by one with minimally invasive instruments. Hårklinikken has also developed the more specialised "LHFUE" procedure, or Long Hair Follicular Unit Extraction, where long hairs are extracted from the donor site and placed in between existing long hairs. Hårklinikken's transplantation techniques lead to natural results with very high density, and no real patient down time.

3

Hårklinikken's Density Improvement Program (DIP) is based on the philosophy of treating clients and ensuring natural, lasting results and optimal hair density, by combining individualized Hårklinikken products with unique methods of hair transplantation. The first Hårklinikken was opened in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1992 and the brand now has locations not only across Denmark but also in Germany, USA, and now Dubai. Amongst patients are an increasing number of international celebrities including royalty, entertainers, and business tycoons.

Bad Foods You Must Avoid

Written by
Bad Foods You Must Avoid

Just because a food item has the word "salad" in it doesn't mean it's healthy for you. A high percentage of restaurants and grocer's prepare salads with numerous add-ons such as cheese and meaty forms of protein which can inject you with up to 900mg of sodium. And that's without salad dressing!

Potato chips like the Lays brand advertises, you just can't have one and overdosing on All Dressed or Sour Cream & Onion chips can result in high fat intakes and over 300mg of sodium despite signs that point to 0 trans fats.

Ice cream is fat based, opt for its healthier cousin frozen yogurt. One traditional serving of ice cream can produce a double whammy of 25g of sugar and fat and if you do seconds, you can consume more than a third of the calories you're supposed to take in on a daily basis.

Chicken wings should come with medical contracts on their actual chicken wings rather than their heat-soaked sauces because their irresistable taste usually comes with 30g of fat and sodium levels that provide more than your daily limit for salt.

Muffins are often used as a meal replacement for those with a busy lifestyle and they definitely have their benefits if they're the right type of muffin. Some varieties usually contain 25g of fat and depending on their ingredients, can provide one-third of your daily caloric requirements.

Onion rings is an unhealthy appetizer that can deliver almost a day's worth of fat depending on how it's prepared and how much grease is hiding its battered coating.

Fruit juice cocktails is most varieties taste amazing and but an 8-ounce glass can contain up to 40g of sugar which is more than your average can of soda.

Out of all the snacks that live on your grocer's shelves, popcorn is one of the healthiest options but on a diet plan, it can be the complete opposite. Its kicker is fats which if you don't look at the label closely, can amount up to 60g of the saturated fats.

Vitamin Water has been a popular substitute when it comes to fitness but it should not be treated as regular water. Each bottle contains 33 grams of sugar in its 2.5 servings which is only 6 grams less than a can of Coca-Cola.

They're designed to transfer protein to boost your metabolism and performance levels but most protein bars, especially those of the PowerBar variety, lack fiber and substitute that with three-fourths of your daily limit for added sugar. Now you know where the acceptable taste comes from!

While Fat-Free Salad Dressing gives you the benefit of using dressing on your mixed green combinations, most brands have 8 grams of sugar in just two tablespoons. In simple terms, that equals more than a dozen jellybeans.

Macaroni & Cheese may have found its way into the hearts of kids and teenagers everywhere but for bodies that aren't growing anymore, it's an unwelcome addition to a diet plan. One large serving/order can provide up to half the calories you need in a day and more fat than a growing adult requires in 24 hours.

How to Shape Your Butt and Side Glutes

Written by
How to Shape Your Butt and Side Glutes

Getting a toned, sculpted butt isn't all genetics and doesn't require hours a day in the gym. Here are some great spot training exercises, you can learn how to focus on your lower section and have a beautiful butt in just a few months.

Lie on the ground face down and prop yourself up on your hands or elbows, then push yourself up on your toes. Make sure your body is off the ground, but keep those hips low to the ground. Try holding it for 30 seconds and you'll really feel the burn in your butt and abs. When 30 seconds becomes easy, work your way up to 1 minute, 2 minutes, even 5 minutes for an intense workout.

Bouncing on a trampoline is a great way to tone up your butt. It's also a fun way to spend time with your kids!

In addition to getting cardio and burning calories, running is also great for your toning your butt muscles. Add a jog or sprint to your routine. Try running with some hurdles for an intense booty workout.

Bend one knee and bring your foot up behind you, then squat down with your leg until your bent knee almost touches the ground. These pistol squats are a great workout for your buns, but they can be very difficult to do. If you are having trouble, try holding onto a chair until you build up the strength to do them independently.

Front lunges are one of the best lower body exercises; they work your thighs, hamstrings, and gluts. To do front lunges, put your hands on your hips and take a big step forward, and then bend down until your front leg is bent at ninety degrees. Switch legs and repeat at least 15-20 times.

This is a great workout for your core and butt. Lift yourself up into a side plank, and simultaneously lift your leg up while bringing your arm down until your knee and elbow touch. Try starting out with 30 seconds on each side and work your way up.

Great for your side butt! Start standing up straight with your legs together. Bring your right leg out and bend down while keeping the left leg straight. Twist your core and try and reach your right foot with your left hand. Then bring yourself up to the starting position and do the same on the opposite side. Try 15-20 reps on each side for starters.

Jumping rope can burn up to 200 calories in 10 minutes! It engages your legs and buttocks, helps you get your heart rate up and burn fat.

At the lowest point of your squats or lunges, hold it for an additional 30 seconds and feel the burn. This gives you the time to reflect on what you're doing and the slow burns are really going to make all the difference.

Toning your muscles is only one part of the sculpting equation. You need to get some cardio time in at least five times a week to burn fat as well.

Stretches help you tone longer, leaner muscles than weight training. If you want a beautiful booty, find a good Pilates or yoga class.

Most buildings have a way for people to avoid the inconvenience of stairs but if you really want to sculpt those glutes, make it your daily habit to seek out the stairs instead of the elevator or ramps.

Surgery to Reshape Arms is on Demand

Surgery to Reshape Arms is on Demand

Removing fat and excess skin on upper arms via plastic surgery has gained appeal lately. The arm-lift procedure has exploded in popularity since the year 2000.

More than 15,000 US women had the procedure known as arm lifts, or brachioplasty, done last year, at a cost of $61 million nationwide, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, posted Khaleejtimes.com

The surgery is most popular among women over 40, but a few hundred men had the operation last year. Doctors say there is no single reason why, but experts believe the desire to emulate celebrities and their super-toned arms may be a factor.

The ASPS pointed to a recent poll that suggested 'women most admire the arms of first lady Michelle Obama, followed closely by Jennifer Aniston.'

The average cost for the operation is nearly $4,000. Upper arm lift procedures may involve liposuction or cutting away excess skin.

However, there are drawbacks to brachioplasty, which requires an incision from the elbow to the armpit that leaves a scar.
